Sunday School
Each Sunday the children have a Sunday school class during the hour before the morning service. We have classes for ages 4-5, and grades 1-3 and 4-6. These classes are taught directly to their age level, and allows children to learn the content and stories of the Bible, while also learning how to apply Biblical principles in their everyday lives.
Children’s Church
During the Sunday morning services, the children from K4-4th grade can go to children’s church downstairs. We have a dedicated group that works in the children’s church program, and they conduct a service complete with kid’s choruses and a special Bible lesson. The kids really enjoy these services, and most any child who’s been involved with it any length of time will eagerly tell you one of the most imortant truths that they’ve learned: God is good all the time, and all the time God is good!
AWANA
During the school year, we have an AWANA program that meets on Wednesday night. Awana is an international, Bible-centered youth ministry providing local churches with weekly clubs and programs for pre-schoolers through high schoolers. Their/our goal is to reach boys and girls, with the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him.
The AWANA name is an acronym for the phrase “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed.” It comes from a verse in the Bible found in 2 Timothy 2:15, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
Club meetings are Wednesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. during the school year and are open to all children ages 3-years old to 8th grade.
Engleside Baptist Church's AWANA club is centered around a weekly club night consisting of three parts: Handbook Time, Council Time, and Game Time. See descriptions of the different times below.
Handbook Time |
Using achievement oriented curriculum materials, AWANA emphasizes memorization and understanding of key Bible verses. With a trained leader alongside to encourage and guide the Clubbers develop a Bible-based view of how to know and serve God. Clubbers are rewarded for their achievements as they progress through the handbooks. |
Council Time |
It is a quality time for group Bible study emphasizing the sinfulness of man and the need for repentance through Jesus Christ by the sharing of Biblical truth that is relevant to their age group. The teaching of this Biblical truth is the heart of the AWANA Council Time. |
Game Time |
Every AWANA Club meeting includes a high-energy Game Time featuring individual and team competition. Game Time unleashes kids natural energy and enthusiasm. The AWANA Game Circle has universal appeal. Kids everywhere love AWANA games! |

Vacation Bible School
Each summer we host a Vacation Bible School for the children K4- 6th grade who are in our church and neighborhood. The teens in our youth group play a huge role in getting this together, and are responsible for much of the work on decorations, skits, and games. The children who come to VBS have the opportunity to make some creative crafts, participate on a team as part of a week-long contest where they can earn points for coming, saying bible verses, bringing their friends, and many other things. VBS normally runs for a Mon-Fri, and is held in the evenings from appx 6 pm to 8 pm. Please check back as the summer draws closer to get more details and information about the times and theme for this year’s VBS.
Summer Camp
Each summer, children in the 3rd - 6th grades have the opportunity to spend a week at junior camp. This year we will be going to Rapidan Baptist Camp in Rochelle, Virginia. Camp is always a great time where the kids have a week away from all the computers and video games and TVs and ipods and everything else that consumes life, and they instead have all kinds of fun games and activities outdoors with other kids their age. Most importantly, the week is packed full of solid Bible preaching directed right to their specific age group and the struggles they face. It is always a great time of fun and learning for our young people.
